The
Planting Game -This activity will test your skills at matching
each tree to the place in the forest where they will grow best. The lower the
score that you get in the game, the better. HINT: If you're not sure where a
tree would best be suited, place your mouse over the different areas of the
forest to learn more about each of the different growing conditions. See if you
can get a score of 5. Good Luck!
Planning
a Forest -This activity explores three important components of
planning and making use of a forest: recreation, harvesting, and reforestation.
Be sure to click on the different pictures in the forests to learn more.
Dissect a Flower -In this activity, see if you can correctly dissect a flower by placing each part of a flower into the correct box. Be sure to click on the magnifying lens to learn more about the function of each flower part.
Build a Flower -After dissecting the flower in the activity above, see if you can put it all back together in this activity. HINT: If you're not sure about how certain parts of the flower fit together, be sure to go back and play the activity Dissect a Flower. This will help you learn the different parts of the flower and their specific functions.
The World of Vascular Plants -How do plants get the water and nutrients that they need? This activity explores the inner workings of vascular plants. Be sure to click on the numbers on the bottom of the screen to learn more.
The Root Factory -Did you know that some of the foods that we eat are actually the roots of plants? In this activity, learn about the differences between fibrous and tap roots. You'll also discover what kinds of roots are edible and which ones are not.
How are Seeds Dispersed? -We all know that seeds are very important for plants to survive and reproduce, but did you know that there are all sorts of different strategies that plants use in order to get their seeds located to other places? Play this activity to learn more.

The Virtual Plants Tour of Camp Mason! -It won't be long before we'll be spending 3 glorious days and two nights at one of my favorite places in all of the world! That's right! I'm talking about going on our 5th grade camping trip! We did an awesome job last fall discovering the types of plants that live in Edgar Woods. Now it's time to learn about the plants that live up at camp! I put together this activity to help you learn about some of the amazing plants that await you at camp.
Build a Tree-Ring Timeline -Did you know that scientists can accurately tell us what kind of weather we had thousands of years ago? They can even tell us what the weather was like for a particular year! You know....was it rainy? Was it dry? How can they do this? By looking at the growth rings of trees from all over the world. This activity lets you assemble your own tree ring timeline. You'll start with a tree-ring sample from a living tree and, using other samples, piece together a pattern of rings that stretches back through time.
The Garden Pizza Place -What kinds of resources does it take to grow a garden? Find out by playing this activity! Have Chef Norm help you experiment with different amounts of water, light, and fertilizer to grow wheat and tomatoes for your pizza.

Identifying
Forest Types -Being able to identify
trees helps scientists monitor and help protect the species growing in a
particular forest. In this activity, see if you can correctly identify
each tree in this particular forest and then determine its forest type.
Exploring
the Layers of a Forest -In our exploration of Edgar
Woods, we discovered that there are several layers to our forest. Discover
the various animals and insects that live in the different layers of a typical
forest.

forests! A temperate forest, such as what we have in Edgar Woods is a very
